Jill Richards’ recording of Paloma Peña’s re-enactment of ancient stone knapping techniques reveal something special about what we might think of as a purely utilitarian process of weapon and tool making. This recording, like Michelangelo's chiseling away of the extraneous, makes audible the voice within the rock, to expose its inherent form. It has a rhythmic and tonal quality, and it expresses a quest for an ancient meaning hidden within each rock.
