Whatever We Cultivate in Times of Ease, We Gather as Strength for Times of Change
Inauguration of SIYOM Space for Art Based Activities
Inauguration of SIYOM Space for Art Based Activities
With a simple Pena Phamshak, a traditional storytelling performance by Niketan Laishram, who is also one of the young researchers of the Witness, today we inaugurated the SIYOM space for arts, culture, and spirituality at my residence in Manipur, North East India.
SIYOM, meaning "mother’s womb," is conceptualised and designed to bring together a confluence of artists, encompassing both the traditional and the unconventional, the structured and the experimental.
We are now ready to host talks, interactions, workshops, and residencies to cultivate personal and artistic growth through listening, sharing, and collaboration.
It is worth noting that Pena Phamshak (Pena Creative Storytelling Performance) is rarely practiced by this generation. Fortunately, Niketan is one of the few young artists preserving this art form by performing in small spaces like this one.
This is a short excerpt from the epic story "Khamba Thoibi," an episode of “ LOIKABA “- where Princess Thoibi returns from exile in Burma, hopeful to reunite with her beloved Khamba.
