Stanfanus Thomas

Stanfanus (Stan) is Penan man from Long Iman (Tutor Region) and lives between Brunei and Sarawak, Malaysia. Stan has spent over 5 years working at the Gunung Mulu National Park where he was a park ranger, tour guide and biodiversity educator. He is the grandson of Tu’o and Wan, two renowned Penan leaders, known for their leadership, wisdom and strength.
Stan holds the ancestral knowledge of these deep lineages whilst straddling the education and qualifications of the global systems outside of the community. He has worked as a translator and project manager with many researches and projects, with NGOs, Gunung Mulu National Park and with independent practitioners. Stan has been deeply involved in artistic collaborations made in the protection of the forest for years and has a passion for the preservation of his homelands.
He has extensive experience working on projects with local, National and International collaborators and works extensively as an educator about the forest. Stan also works as a translator with extensive experience within cross-cultural collaborations and projects.
