In a climate changed Sarawak, Mutang Tu’o introduces us to the hardships of farming with the ever increasing monsoonal rains
After the deforestation of Sarawak, the climate continues to change with irregular rainfall. Monsoonal rains continue to increase and the result is that many of the farming conditions continue to deteriorate. This ultimately means that for many of the communities across the forest interiors of Sarawak, people are struggling to produce enough food due to the problematic conditions.
Mutang says :
This is the problem I have to face… not everything was completely cleared. A couple of spots I have to manually clear after.
There’s a lot of rain nowadays. Even though this farm is small we have to do it.
Even when it’s raining we still continue to work.
The weather varies everyday. Nonetheless we continue with our work.
This is the situation that we face everyday here at Ba’a Payau.
I don’t think I will be able to harvest my land as much as I could due to its small size.
