My name is Nanou Longa and I'm a Congolese artist committed to the fight against plastic pollution

That's how I take care of my environment and the young people in my neighborhood. I'm part of "trash art", which is a contemporary artistic movement that takes up certain codes of ecological art. It consists in using objects considered as waste to denounce the environmental pollution generated by our consumption habits and to fight against this scourge in my country. Between art and commitment, I want to alert the general public to the dangers of human activities and the impact they can have on the environment. I want to show how waste has a disastrous impact on flora and fauna. What's more, I want the public to become aware of the essential role they can play in the evolution of the natural world.

I live in Kingasani, a poor, overpopulated district of Kinshasa. The young people in my neighborhood are involved in banditry and spend their time getting drunk. This is a double-edged sword, so I organize the collection of this waste for the creation of artistic costumes, which I often accompany with my texts, wondering whether art could perhaps change people's awareness of the danger of pollution (environmental and spiritual) of my people. The new generations seem to be mortgaged by abusive and deadly alcoholism.

My work, both artistic and committed, contributes to the fight against climate change and pollution. The aim of my work is to leave the Earth in a better state than I found it. So I'm constantly thinking about how I can have a positive impact on nature. I also think about the different ways I can raise people's awareness.
