In the Democratic Republic of Congo in general, and in Kinshasa in particular, living with plastic waste, especially bottles, is commonplace

Gutters, rivers, avenues and even streets are transformed into giant dustbins where everyone throws them away after use without being bothered. For some, it's a lack of garbage cans, for others it's a matter of habit. [...] The environmental consequences of plastic packaging are at the root of a number of disasters suffered by the people of Kinshasa and the Congolese in general, including flooding, soil destruction, erosion and insalubrity.
