This is one of the earliest resettlement sites in Nujiang which was built with the purpose of “ poverty alleviation”

It’s a place close to the city and located at the exit from the Nujiang to the provincial capital city. The inhabitants include Lisu, Bai and others. They were displaced from the depths of Nujiang and lived in the mountains, relying on self-sufficient agriculture to survive. At that time, occasionally few young people would go to the city to work. A small street surrounds this resettlement site, where we find several small stores, billiard clubs, clinics, several daycare centers, as well as workshops and warehouses for building materials. This gives us an idea of the daily needs of the site's inhabitants. n addition, something unique to resettlement sites just emerged this year, the small workshops.

There's a baseball processing workshop here, and dozens of workers from this resettlement site have been trained and then worked here. A statement is posted at the door: “According to the actual situation in the Nujiang region, some resettlement sites require left behind elderly women who need to take care of their children, elderly people, and disabled people who cannot go out to work. To facilitate their flexible employment, freedom of movement, and local employment, the following provisions are formulated to mobilize the internal motivation of the community residents: 1. piecework method, 2. recruitment requirements, 3. personal safety, 4. insurance, 5. community commission, 6. administrator work…” To be honest, the sentences in this statement are inexplicable. I might not have bothered to read it if I didn't wonder what goes on in those workshops, and I don't think the workers would be interested in reading it either.

The workers in this workshop are not only “elderly women” but also young women. If they work hard, they can make up to twenty baseballs a day, while older people can make more than ten a day. For a baseball, they can earn 0.6 Yuan RMB and pay 0.1 Yuan RMB to the community regulatory office. We looked up the price of a baseball on an online store, the cheapest costing 2 yuan RMB, but it seems that the profit is insufficient due to Nujiang's remoteness and transport difficulties.
