Fatima and Souad are fourteen and threeteen years old and live in M'Hamid El Ghizlane

They belong to the traditional Amazigh Berber community of North Africa, south of the Sahara. Fatima and Souad, here with Farrah, discuss how the town of M'Hamid was in the past and what has changed in the present.

Both agree that the people before didn't have much. They didn't have a lot of clothes. They used to live in tents with animals.

Fatima and Souad say they were happier with what they had. The communities of M'Hamid could count on milk from the animals and dates from the palm trees that grew with the water that flowed in the M'Hamid oasis. The name M'Hamid ill Ghizlane translates as M'Hamid de la Gazelle. In the past, M'Hamid was populated by gazelles.

These girls believe that many things were not necessary back then, whereas today the community needs many possessions. Society and commerce have created many needs.
