The date palm is an essential part of the ecosystem in Morocco

Date palm trees have been a source of income for farmers for centuries. Because of the climate change these lush and green palms are drying up frequently and drastically reducing the farming of dates.

In the farm area of M’Hamid oasis, it is the sound of the birds in the date palm tree that stand out. The desert sparrow is one that sings frequently with willow warblers and tree larks.

Fatimah records while the class takes a soundwalk. Each of the girls have been learning to set up microphones and utilize field recording gear alongside learning to film with video cameras and document their surroundings.
