Mutang Tu’o has spent over 40 years fighting to defend his homeland
He has travelled to meet political leaders across the globe and spoken in the UN, the Whitehouse and many parliaments.
As we watch a slide show of Mutang’s travels from the past, he tells us some of the issues facing his homelands now. Mutang says, “In Sarawak now we have a big problem. Our government try to make a dam in the Tutoh River. And also the Carbon Project. That is our problem now.”
For over 40 years the Penan communities have faced logging, palm oil plantations, dams and resource extraction projects. The Malaysian & Sarawak governments continually deny Penan sovereignty of land.
But the fight continues.

In his most recent trip, Mutang was invited to return to Switzerland for the Rainforest Tribunal. This was a case facilitated by Bruno Manser Fund and allowed for Mutang and other expert witnesses to give testimony of the destruction.
